11 things to love about toddlers

The toddler stage (1-3 years old) can be exhausting, but also a lot of fun.

There are nights when they wake up crying and you’re not sure why, and during the day they can demand a lot of your time, energy, and effort, oh and then there’s the tantrums.

However, despite the above, there are so many things to love about toddlers, things that one day we can look back on fondly, even though at the time these things may have driven us crazy, and made our days feel never ending.

Here are 11 things to love about toddlers, which will remind us just how special this time was, and what we may miss once we’re out of the toddlerhood trenches.

TODDLERS ARE EASILY ENTERTAINED

The simplest things entertain toddlers, from peek a boo, hiding behind cupboards and suddenly jumping out, or playing with them in the sand, which are perfect activities for when you’re feeling tired and don’t have the energy for anything intense.

THEIR VOICES ARE SO SWEET

When they start to babble, and then form words, they’re said in the sweetest softest voices.

This combined with mixing up their words, or saying the wrong things when they start talking is when toddlers are at their most innocent.

THEY LOVE TO CUDDLE

One of my favourite things to love about toddlers is how cuddly they are, especially when they feel sad, or miss their mum.

THEY STILL NAP

Even though structuring your day around your toddler’s naps can be hard, just knowing that you can get some quiet time during the day is enough to keep even the tiredest mum going.

THEY FIND COMFORT IN SOFT TOYS

Watching toddlers cuddle up to soft toys to make them feel better is one of the cutest things about toddlers.

I love how a soft toy is exactly what a toddler needs to feel safe during stressful times, or to help them sleep.

It’s one of the easier things about toddlers, as the older they get, the harder their problems become, and the more it takes to make them feel better.

THEY NEED YOU FOR EVERYTHING

Ok, this is one of the more questionable things to love about toddlers, but at this age they need you for everything, from food, snuggles, bedtime, entertainment – everything.

This is something that I find a challenge at times, but as toddlers get older, they need their mums less, which is good and bad.

As they need us less it means they’re becoming more independent and you get some of your time back, but the bond that you share when you’re their whole world reduces as they get older, and other people enter their lives.

THEIR GIGGLES

Toddlers giggle with all their whole heart, and can do so even when they were just crying their lungs out.

THEY’RE STARTING TO MAKE SENSE OF THE WORLD

Toddlers know what they like, what they won’t tolerate, what their favourite toys are, and how to get what they want. They’re starting to form ideas on how the world works, and where they fit in to it all.

THEY CAN TELL YOU WHAT’S WHAT

Although it can be embarrassing when in public, one of the things to love about toddlers is that they’re honest, they tell you exactly what’s what, which can make many day to day things easier.

THEY’RE JUST SO CUTE

From their large smiles, when they pull a funny face, their cute noses, and food smudged faces, toddlers are just so cute, which is one of the reasons why they get away with so much.

THEY LOVE TO HELP

Toddlers love to do things by themselves, and they always want to help.

Letting them help around the house with simple things like putting socks away, sweeping the floor, tidying their toys, or even getting nappies for younger siblings is a great way to make toddlers feel valued, and will hopefully get them into the habit of helping around the house as they get older.
