Outdoor activity ideas for Father’s Day

Outdoor activity ideas for Father’s Day

Dad’s can be hard to buy for, there’s only so many ties or pairs of socks that they need.

If this year you want to give them something they’ll love, then perhaps an outdoor activity for Father’s Day could be the perfect Father’s Day gift.

Here are some outdoor activity ideas for Father’s Day, that as well as being family friendly Father’s Day activities, they’ll also allow some special memories to be made.

Go on a picnic

Going on a picnic is a fantastic way to celebrate Father’s Day outdoors, because it combines two things that many dads love – food and outdoor time.

This is also an outdoor activity idea for Father’s Day that your children can fully participate in from start to finish, by getting some father’s day food ideas, and kids snacks, and packing them into a picnic basket or bag, and then sharing them with their dad once you’ve found a picnic spot.

If you live in the UK, some of my favourite picnic spots are National Trust properties, there are always many picnic spots here, and some even have children’s play areas.

Play mini golf

Mini golf is a great way for golf loving dads to share their interest with younger children who are too young to go to a driving range, but young enough to learn a little bit of golf in a fun way.

Go hiking

Going on a Father’s Day hike is a great way to spend time outdoors on Father’s Day, you could even take some binoculars with you and do some bird watching.

Den building

Dens aren’t only fun indoors, they’re also really fun outdoors especially if you get creative with your den and find different materials to build it with, including rocks, sticks, tree trunk cut offs, and even bark.

National parks and woodlands are perfect den building locations if this is something you decide to do for your outdoor Father’s Day adventure.

Fly a kite

Kids love flying kites, but it can be a tricky thing to do, which makes it a good excuse for dad’s to impart their kite flying knowledge onto their little ones.

Parks with open spaces are ideal for kite flying, and if the park also has a play area you could spend quite a bit of time on your kite flying morning or afternoon out.

Go karting

Not all dad’s love hiking or kite flying, so if this is the case go karting could just be the outdoor activity they love, and your children will love as well.

Paint ball

Similar to go karting, paint ball is a great outdoor activity idea for Father’s Day for dads who love the outdoors, but don’t want anything too sporty.

Visit a historical site

If the dad in your life is a bit of a history buff, you could organise for them to attend a local historical site tour, or take them to a historical site they’ve wanted to visit but haven’t had a chance to.

Go to a car show

Looking at cars and talking about the cars they had are great stories your children can learn from their dad.

Go to a food festival

Going to an outdoor food festival, food trucks, or even enjoying a meal outside is a really nice way to spend Father’s Day, and treat dad to food they really enjoy.

I hope you’ve found something here that sounds like a great Father’s Day outdoor activity, and maybe you could even combine a few ideas together, such as finding an open space for kite flying and a picnic, that also has a nearby playground.

What outdoor activities do your children love?
