5 of my favourite self care activities
Like many mums, I tend to place the needs of my own below the needs of my children, and it’s only recently that I’ve realised that making time for self care is something I need to do, not only to meet my needs as well, but to take care of my mental health and mood levels.
If self care is something you’d like to start to incorporate into your days, here are 5 of my favourite self care activities that you may like to try.
If you’re after more self care ideas, here are some self care ideas for mums that you could also try.
Reading
Reading is a self care activity that I try to make as much time as possible for.
I love finding new books to read, and as well as being a great hobby idea, reading allows me to stop thinking about my to do list, and focus on getting lost in another world.
Baths
Bubble baths are a self care activity that’s spoken about a lot, and even though self care is much more than taking a bath, for many of us, myself included, it’s something that makes us happy, and allows us to fully relax and be on our own.
Taking a bath is something I make a real effort to do once a week, as it forces me to take a break from housework, or think about things I need to get done.
Decluttering
Decluttering is not something that’s typically associated with self care, because it can be a chore for many of us.
However, for me decluttering the house, or any area that’s making me irritated, is a great form of self care because when my house, or an area in my house is cluttered, I get really frustrated.
Walking
Over the past year walking has been something that I treat as self care, because it clears my mind, allows me to get fresh air, and I can catch up on some of my favourite podcasts for mums.
Alone time
There are many benefits of alone time, and when I don’t have alone time for a long period of time I get really snappy, irritated, and am hard to be around.
Having alone time is something that I treat as self care, because it allows me to recharge, gain perspective on anything happening in my life, and refocus my energy.
What are some of your favourite self care activities?
It’s so important to make time for self-care – even if it’s just five minutes! I always laugh at the bubble bath one: really it’s more the feeling that a bubble bath gives, isn’t it? Alone time and feeling refreshed. My favourite self-care activities are definitely reading and alone time.
It’s definitely so important, and the bubble bath one is funny, but so true that it’s more the feeling that it gives. I definitely second reading and alone time, they’re my number ones as well!
