Playtrain High Wycombe Review
Playtrain Activity Centre in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, is a soft play centre that I’ve visited with the boys many times.
As well as having a large soft play area, it also has areas for under threes and fours, a role play village, and games for younger children.
Here’s my review of Playtrain, which I hope will help you decide if it’s somewhere that you’d like to visit.
Where is Playtrain?
Playtrain is located in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, 29 miles west-north west of Charing Cross London, and can be reached on the M40.
What is there to do at Playtrain?
There are many different things to do at Playtrain, which include:
Soft play frame
The first thing you see when you enter Playtrain is a massive soft play frame, perfect for kids aged 4 – 8.
It has slides, stairs, ladders, bridges, punching bags, holes to jump down, tunnels, and an area where you can throw basketballs through holes.
Under threes area
There’s a small soft play section for under threes that consists of a ball pit, a sensory fish tube, stairs, ramps, trampoline, colourful floor, and bubble machine.
Under fours area
There’s a small soft play frame for under fours, with tunnels, stairs, climbing structures, and ramps.
Next to this is a space where children of any age can stomp on things that appear on the lit up ground.
Role play village
There’s a fantastic role play village here that runs along the wall next to the large soft play frame.
The role play area includes a:
- Grocery store
- Clothing store
- Hairdresser
- Vet
- Office
- Building site
- Fire station
- Police station
- Café
- Caravan
There are costumes here, and a street that runs through the village, that can be driven on by any of the cars scattered throughout the centre.
Second hand bookshop
There are some fantastic books to purchase near the under threes area, with any money made going to Air Ambulance.
It costs £1 for a soft cover book, or £2 for a hard cover book.
Party rooms
Playtrain have a few different party options, which are held in two party rooms, and run for 1.5 hours.
For more information on their parties, please visit here.
LEARNALOT Tuition School
There’s also a tuition school for 3-11 year olds onsite, run by school teachers, in two fully equipped classrooms.
For more information on this, please visit here.

Parking
There’s really good onsite parking here, and it’s free.
I’ve always found a car spot whenever I’ve visited.
Facilities
There are toilets and a baby change onsite.
There’s no dedicated buggy parking area, but there is so much room that you can park your buggy next to wherever you’re sitting.
Food and drinks
There’s a large café with a lot of seating that offers hot and cold food and drinks, including kid’s menus, hot dogs, sandwiches, pizza, nachos, chocolate, cakes, and healthy, vegetarian, gluten free, and Halal options.
You can’t bring your own food in.
What age is Playtrain for?
The website says Playtrain is for 8 year olds and under.
Both of my boys, who are under 8 love Playtrain, and always have a lot of fun exploring it.
My thoughts on Playtrain
I really enjoy taking the boys to Playtrain.
Parking is free, the centre is large and clean, and the staff are friendly.
Whilst the soft play section is large, it’s still easy to see where your child is, and they can’t exit the centre as it’s all gated.
The only thing I don’t like about Playtrain is that they charge for adults, which is money I’d rather put towards a drink or food.
Apart from this, I highly recommend Playtrain, it’s a really fun morning or afternoon out.
Playtrain is located at Playtrain House, Lancaster Road, Cressex Industrial Estate, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire HP12 3PY. For more information on Playtrain please visit their website.
