Things I’ll miss about having little kids

What I'll miss about having little kids

Like many mums, I sometimes find myself dreaming of the next phase of my little kid’s lives.

The phase where they’re a little bit more independent, where they’ll sit nicely at a restaurant, and when they’ll go to bed without stalling for hours on end.

However, even though having little kids can be hard, there’s so much that I wil miss about having little kids once my little ones have reached the next phase of their lives.

Here are the things I’ll miss about having little kids, which are things that I hope you can also look back at with fondness, once we’re both out of the little kid stage.

Things I’ll miss about having little kids

I’ll miss their squeaky little voices, how they mix up their words, and how they talk about things they love, which are so simple and innocent. I’ll also miss how they explain how things work to you, like it’s the first time you’ve ever heard about it.

I’ll miss constant snuggles and kisses for no reason but just because they love you so much, and watching their favourite shows with them whilst they rest their head on your shoulder.

Watching them make connections between things, like getting a toy that matches what they’re watching on TV.

I’ll miss brushing little teeth with strawberry flavoured toothpaste.

One of the biggest things I’ll miss about having little kids is holding their hand all the time, even around the house, and having them just grab your hand whenever they can.

I’ll miss goodbye kisses at the school gate, and that little kids love you like nothing else. You’re their whole world, and they’re yours.

I’ll miss finding leaves and stones in my pockets, after they’ve been given to me on a walk.

I’ll miss impromptu dance offs in the kitchen.

I’ll miss how easy it is to dress my boys. They have no interest in choosing their own clothes, or even dressing themselves, which makes getting out the door easy.

I’ll miss going to school plays, where we’ve practiced the songs they need to sing together.

I’ll miss making them feel safe, and feel better when they’re scared or have hurt themselves.

I’ll miss how excited they get for holidays, like getting dressed up for Halloween, and waiting for Santa to arrive.

Another of the things I’ll miss about having little kids is having a special baking helper, who is so excited to practice reading that they read the ingredients, and tell me what I need to do next.

Even though bedtime can take ages, I’ll miss the time where I don’t have to read books or sing songs anymore, or hear about how their day was.

There are so many things I’ll miss about having little kids, but I’m also excited for the next phase of their lives, where we can have better conversations together, and build stronger bonds.
