Disney Hooyay Drum Kit Review

Disney Hooyay Drum Kit Review

For his birthday, Thomas received a Disney Hooyay drum kit, which is a toy that allows children to control the way that they make noise, which is something that they love to do.

The drum kit is colourful, and has an educational aspect to it, which may, or may not appeal to younger children.

If you’re interested in finding out more about the Disney Hooyay drum kit, then here’s my review on it, which I hope helps you to decide if it’s a toy that you’d like to add to your child’s toy collection.

This review will cover:

I hope you find this review helpful, and would love to know if there’s anything that you think I can add to it to ensure that it’s as helpful as can be.

Disney Hooyay

The Disney Hooyay product range consists of toys for preschoolers, some of which have swappable heads on them that help children to learn about colours, letters, numbers, and shapes.

Disney Hooyay Drum Kit

Here are some of the key things to know about the drum kit.

Packaging

The drum kit comes in a large cardboard box, with plastic covers over the Donald Duck head, and 2 drumsticks.

The drum kit isn’t covered by plastic, so you can feel the quality, and test the drum kit whilst it’s still in its packaging.

On the back of the box is information about the toy’s swappable heads, which are part of the toy’s Rock n Swap toy range, which I cover in more detail below.

Disney Hooyay Drum Kit Review features

What does the drum kit do?

The drum kit has four colourful cymbals on it labelled A B C and D, which play music depending on the button your child presses, and what Disney character’s head from the Rock n Swap range is placed on it.

There is a red switch behind Donald Duck’s head that turns the drum kit on, and allows you to select a volume level, either soft or loud.

There are five buttons on the bottom of the drum kit that need to be pressed for the drum kit to start working, and what the drum kit does depends upon what button’s pressed, and whether or not a Disney character’s head is attached to it.

The drum kit comes with Donald Duck’s head, when this head isn’t attached to the drum kit, the buttons work as follows:

  • Pink and yellow buttons – when pressed two different songs play, allowing your child to hit the cymbals in time with the rhythm
  • Blue button – this is a free play mode, where your child can hit any cymbal they want to, to hear a noise
  • Red button – when pressed the drum kit records the sounds the cymbals make when your child plays the drum kit after pressing it
  • Green button – when pressed the drum kit plays back the recording it took when your child pressed the red button and started hitting the cymbals

When the cymbals are hit, an LED light lights up the numbers 1, 2, 3, or 4.

When Donald Duck’s head is attached to the drum kit, the buttons work the same way as above, the only difference is the blue button, instead of the cymbals making a sound when hit, Donald Duck’s voice relays the number on the cymbal.

What does Rock n Swap mean?

This Disney Hooyay drum kit is part of the Rock n Swap product range, a range of products that have different Disney character’s heads on them, each head has a different educational aspect to it.

Additionally, each head can be removed from the product it comes with, and added to an applicable product in the Disney Hooyay range.

The different Disney character heads in this range are Minnie, Mickey, Donald and Tigger.

If you put Minnie’s head on this drum kit and press the blue button, the cymbals light up with colours and Minnie will say what the colour is.

When you put Mickey’s head on this drum kit and press the blue button, the cymbals light up with letters and Mickey says the letters.

Donald’s head makes the cymbals light up with numbers and he says the numbers, whilst Tigger’s head makes them light up with shapes, and he says the shapes.

You need to buy the Disney Hooyay product that has the head you want, and then take the head off the product and put it on the drum kit for the drum kit to teach your child anything apart from numbers, which is what Donald Duck teaches.

Recommended age

The box says that this product is suitable for 18+ months.

Thomas is nearly 2.5 years old and enjoys this drum kit. He likes making the numbers light up, and dancing to the songs when the pink and yellow buttons are pressed.

However, he’s too young to understand the educational aspect to it, so it’s purely a musical instrument for him.

Price

At the time of writing this post the drum kit was $26.19 USD, and can be purchased on Amazon UK.

Overall thoughts on the Disney Hooyay Drum Kit

This drum kit is perfect for children who love toys that they can hit in order for it to do something.

If you’re looking for a compact, light, easy to clean toy that can be played with easily, then this drum kit is perfect.

However, if you’re looking for a toy that’s interactive, and that your child can learn something from, then this toy may not meet your needs.
