A weekend in Prague

A weekend in Prague

In September Mel and I took a sister trip to Prague, a destination that’s been on both of our travel wish lists for some time.

Before we got there we had a plan of what we wanted to do each day. However, we purposefully didn’t look at too many photos of the city, so any expectations that we had wouldn’t be dashed.

It was a wise choice not too look at too many photos, as we were pleasantly surprised at what this gorgeous city had in store for us.

Here’s a rundown of what we saw, and two recommendations on what to try food wise.

What to see

Old Town Square
If there were one word to describe Prague’s Old Town, it would be as simple as WOW!!! This part of Prague was absolutely gorgeous; we were both taken aback by its beauty.  We seriously didn’t know where to look, every building was stunning. There was a lot of colour, gold, and pure beauty. Together with The Grand-Place in Brussels, this is so far one of the best cities I’ve had the pleasure of visiting.

Old Town Hall
Located within Old Town Square is the Old Town Hall, which we wanted to visit so we could see the Astronomical Clock in action.

But we were sadly disappointed as the clock was under construction, so it was covered up. It reopened the week after we left.

The Church of our Lady before Tyn
Also located within Old Town Square is another gorgeous attraction, which you absolutely can’t miss. It stands very tall within the Old Town Square. (It’s the main image of this post.)

On a tour that Mel and I took, we were told that the Church’s two towers aren’t identical in design due to being constructed at different times, by different people.

Klementinum
Mel wanted to come here to take photos of the Baroque Library, and as a bonus that we weren’t aware of, we were able to climb to the roof and take some amazing photos of some spectacular views.

To access the rooftop and see the library, we had to join a tour, the tickets of which we purchased at the entrance.

The streets surrounding the Klementinum are totally worth strolling around as well.

Churches
One thing we did plenty of was walk into any church that allowed us to do so. It’s one of our favourite things to do whilst away together as we never know what beauty awaits us inside.

Here’s an image of St. Giles’ Church, which shows you just how stunning Prague’s churches are.

Charles Bridge
Charles Bridge connects Prague’s Old Town and New Town, and can be accessed by walking through one of two towers. There are many statues and artists dotted along the bridge.

It’s a scenic stroll along the bridge, and once we reached New Town, we were faced with numerous eateries, shops, and Prague Castle.

Food to try

Chimney Cakes
Chimney cake shops are scattered all throughout Prague’s Old Town, and the smell is in the air wherever you find yourself in the city.

They are filled with ice cream and the cone, which I thought would be a donut, was actually more like pastry. I highly recommend you have try one if you’re ever in Prague.

Grilled cheese and jam
As a little random food stop, Mel and I bought a grilled cheese and jam open sandwich, the salty and sweet and hot combination was a winner!

Final thoughts
Prague was just stunning; we didn’t know where to look. Everything about it was gorgeous. The people were friendly, food wasn’t expensive, and the buildings were breathtaking.

We were so lucky to be able to visit Prague, and I would go back in a heartbeat.

Have you been to Prague and if so, what was your favourite attraction?
