5 ways to unwind after the kids go to bed

The time between our kid’s bedtime and our own is precious. It can be the only time throughout the day where we get a chance to breathe, relax, and actually take some time to meet our own needs, instead of everyone else’s.

If you’d like to get some much needed downtime at the end of the night, then here are 5 ways to unwind after the kids go to bed, which will also ensure you’re as mentally and physically prepared for whatever the next day brings.

Read a great book

For me reading is by far one of my favourite ways to unwind after the kids go to bed.

It’s something that I try to make time for every night as soon as I get into bed, even if it’s only for five minutes.

I love to read fiction books with easy to follow storylines, where I can really get lost in the story, and escape reality.

Relax with a hot drink

Another of my favourite ways to unwind after the kids go to bed is to have a hot cup of tea, some chocolate, and watch a little bit of TV.

If you have trouble sleeping, or would like something to help you sleep better, you may like to try a chamomile tea with honey, or lavender tea.

Spend time with your other half

Spending time with your other half is best done at night, as there’s no interruptions, and you can finally catch up on each other’s day, discuss plans for the weekend, finally have a conversation you’ve been meaning to have, or just watch some TV together.

Take some time to journal

Journaling is a great way to alleviate any negative feelings you have, get clear on an issue you’re going through, record what your day was like, and even record memories you don’t want to forget.

You don’t have to journal for long, and you don’t have to do it every night, but it’s definitely one of the nicest and most relaxing ways to unwind after the kids go to bed.

Take a shower or have a bath

Taking a shower or having a bath at night means you can take as long as you like, giving you time to add some extra indulgence by using a luxurious body wash, or face wash.

I hope you’ve found some ways to unwind after the kids go to bed that you’d like to start doing, enabling you to take some much deserved time out for yourself.

Is there anything on this list that you’d like to try after the kids go to bed?
