Things to do at Waddesdon Manor

There are many things to do at Waddesdon Manor, which include:

The Manor

The manor at Waddesdon Manor is a French Renaissance-style château that was built between 1874 and 1885 by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, to entertain the fashion world, and display his art collection.

It’s an extremely impressive manor inside and out, and is one of my favourite National Trust manors, due to its décor, and the amount of rooms open to visitors.

Walking through the manor you can see exquisitely decorated rooms, expensive fixtures, tapestry, floral arrangements, and many grandfather clocks.

Two of my favourite rooms are The Dining Room, which has a 24 seat marble table inside it, as well as the Smoking and Billiard Room in the Bachelor’s Wing, which is a very luxurious man cave.

Woodland Playground

One of the best things to do at Waddesdon Manor for families with younger children is to visit the Woodland Playground, which is located near the Stables.

There’s a section for toddlers here, as well as for older kids with swings, slides, seesaws, zip wires, and climbing frames.

It’s covered by trees, so if the weather isn’t the best when you visit, you can still enjoy this playground.

Gardens

There are multiple gardens at Waddesdon Manor, including:

  • The Aviary Garden, this is a must see if visiting with kids because it consists of cages filled with colourful and exotic birds, and a well with fish
  • Parterre, located behind the manor, this gorgeous garden changes every spring and summer, so it’s worth viewing multiple times
  • Water Garden, a private garden that you can only visit during certain times of the year, on a special tour
