One of the hardest things to adjust to as a mum is the change in your sleep patterns. Once a baby enters your life, you have no control over how much sleep you’ll get.
Sleep isn’t just an issue for babies, even toddler’s sleep habits can change for any reason, which is why as mums we’re keen to try whatever we can to help our children sleep well.
A product that has been designed with babies sleep in mind is the Lulla Doll by RoRo, a doll that aims to replicate the closeness a baby feels to their caregivers, when they’re away from them.
It’s a product that I was given as a present before Ryan was born.
If you’re interested in finding out more about the Lulla Doll, then here’s my review on it, which I hope helps you decide if it’s something that you may like to buy for your baby.
In this review I’ll cover:
I hope you find this Lulla Doll review helpful, and would love to know if there’s anything that you think I can add to it, to ensure it’s as helpful as can be.
RoRo
RoRo was founded in Iceland in 2011, and is dedicated to helping babies and their parents feel better.
One way that they aim to achieve this is with the creation of their Lulla Doll, a doll that imitates the closeness babies feel with their caregivers, when their caregivers are away from them.
The doll does this by playing breathing and heartbeat sounds that have been scientifically proven to help with a baby’s wellbeing and quality of sleep.

Packaging
The Lulla Doll comes in a fabric bag tied with string, which you can use to store the doll in whilst it’s in the washing machine.
What does the Lulla Doll do?
The Lulla Doll is a sleeping aid, which is designed to help a baby feel comfortable and safe when they’re away from their caregivers by playing the sounds of a woman’s breathing and heartbeat.
Scientific research has shown that closeness, breathing, and heartbeat can improve a baby’s sleep, wellbeing, and safety, which is why the product has been designed this way.
The volume of the breathing and heartbeat is 65dB, so it’s safe for babies with sensitive hearing.
The doll has neutral colours, and is very soft, both design features that aim to help with the comfort levels a baby feels when they use it.
How does the Lulla Doll work?
The instructions recommend that before use you keep the doll close to your skin so the doll absorbs your scent, which provides your baby with an added sense of security.
Once ready to use, all you need to do to turn the breathing and heartbeat sounds on or off is press the heart on the front of the doll for 3 seconds.
If you want to change the volume, there are 3 volume controls that can be changed by pressing a button on the side of the sound box, which is located inside the velcro section on the back of the doll.
The doll turns off automatically after 12 hours.
As it’s not recommended to place anything inside your baby’s cot or bed before they’re 12 months old, there are some straps inside the velcro section on the back of the doll that allow you to attach the doll to the exterior of their cot, bed, or buggy.
Power needed
The Lulla Doll needs 2 x AA batteries, which are supplied with it.
If you use the doll every day for one week, for its 12 hour cycle, the batteries will last approximately one week.
Size
The Lulla Doll is 50 x 23 x 23 cm, and weighs 200 grams.
Material
The doll’s body is 100% polyester, the head is 70% cotton and 30% polyester, and the filling is 100% polyester fibres.
It can be washed at 60°C in a wash bag, or the bag it’s packaged in, on a low spin.
You must remove the sound box before washing it.

Overall thoughts on the Lulla Doll
I’m not sure how well this doll helped Ryan to fall asleep, or what impact it had on his quality of sleep, because as a parent there’s no way to find out the exact reason why your baby finally falls asleep.
All I can do to work out how well this doll worked for Ryan was to compare his quality of sleep with and without the doll, and the result was that there wasn’t much difference.
This means that for me, the Lulla Doll didn’t help Ryan with his sleep in the way I thought it would.
However, just because it didn’t work that well for me doesn’t mean it won’t work for others, in fact, there are fantastic reviews online for the doll, with some parents calling it a miracle product.
In my opinion, anything that helps your baby feel comfortable, or sleep better is a product worth trying.
In terms of design, the Lulla Doll is very well made, it’s incredibly soft and light, I love how it can be attached to the exterior of a cot, bed, or buggy, and being machine washable is a big plus.
