As busy mums, we often don’t have time to achieve everything we want to, or need to do, which is why finding productivity tips for busy mums is essential to help us work through our to do lists, and end the day feeling like we’ve accomplished something.

If you’re looking for ways to be more productive in your mum life, and want to use the time you have as well as you can, here are 5 productivity tips for busy mums that you may like to try.

Focus on priorities

Often when writing a to do list, or thinking about what needs to get done, we write a massive brain dump of everything we need to do.

Looking at a long list immediately stalls productivity, because the list feels overwhelming, and overwhelm stops us from getting things done.

Therefore, one of the best ways to be productive is to look at your to do list, identify three priorities, and work on those first.

For example, one of your priorities may be to meal plan for the week, which means working on this until it’s done, and not working on, or saying yes to anything else until it’s finished.

Be flexible

Sometimes things happen that are out of our control, which means we can’t get what we planned to do done.

For example, kids get sick and have to be picked up from school, childcare can be cancelled, or we may wake up feeling unmotivated.

Part of being productive as a mum is being flexible, and changing the day we do something, not being able to do things we really wanted to do, or just not doing something at all, and not feeling disappointed, or unmotivated if this happens.

Plan your day

Planning your day is one of my favourite productivity tips for busy mums, it ensures you do the things you need to do, and gives you ideas of what you can do if you have small pockets of time.

You can plan your day by spending 5 – 10 minutes each night listing down what you want to get done the next day, then prioritising your top three to dos.

Planning your day also allows you to start the day ready to tackle what needs to get done, instead of wasting time thinking about what you need to get done.

Wake up early

Waking up before your kids, even just 15 minutes before, gives you uninterrupted time to get one or two small things done.

This means that you can start the day feeling productive, and ready to tackle what’s to come.

Morning and night routines

Morning and night routines can help with productivity, by giving certain tasks dedicated times.

For example, morning routines tell kids what they need to do to get ready for school and get out of the door on time.

Night routines can be a peak time for productivity by allowing you to get organised for the next day, for example, you can use nights to get kids school lunches ready, put clothes in the living room, or tidy the house.

I hope you’ve found some productivity tips that you’d like to start trying, that will make you feel less stressed with everything that you have going on, and as an added bonus, give you some much needed time for the things you love.

Do you have any productivity tips that work for you?
