Cliveden Review, National Trust
Cliveden is a National Trust property we visit a lot, I love the amount of open space there is for the boys to run around, and the children’s playground is one that can be enjoyed by kids young and old.
Here’s my Cliveden review from our recent visit, which covers:
I hope you find this Cliveden review helpful, and that it helps you to decide if it’s somewhere you’d like to visit.
Location
Cliveden is located at:
Cliveden Road
Taplow, Maidenhead
Buckinghamshire SL1 8NS
Things to do
Things to do include:
Gardens
There are many different gardens at Cliveden from the more formal to the more relaxed, and they change a lot during the seasons.
Some of the gardens at Cliveden include:
- The Rose Garden
- Long Garden
- Water Garden
- Parterre
My favourite garden is the Long Garden, because as well as being really pretty, it has a long strip in the middle where the boys can run, without fear that they’ll trample something they shouldn’t.
We also love The Parterre, which is located behind the house, and is a great place for picnics and outdoor games, especially if you’re looking for ways to entertain the kids over summer, because a lot of sun reaches this garden.
Our absolute favourite garden is the Water Garden, located next to the Storybook Play Den, and that has a large pond in it with fish, ducks, and a fountain
Storybook Play Den
My boys love the Storybook Play Den, a playground with wooden animals, climbing frames, see saw, slide, boat, obstacle course, a small house, and more.
Located at the entrance is a wooden train, wooden tractor, and wooden building blocks, which Thomas loves.
Giant Maze
Located next to the pond in the Water Garden is a maze with over 500 metres of path, and is approximately 1/3 of an acre.
Ryan and I have attempted this maze once. It took us about 45 minutes to find the centre, as there are lots of twists and turns.
Woodland Play Trail
The woodlands at Cliveden are over 300 acres and one of the features is a woodland play trail with log steps, beams, and rope swing.
Clive’s Den
Next to the Woodland Play Trail is Clive’s Den, a large den with wooden musical chimes.
House
The house at Cliveden is a luxury country hotel, and on occasion you can do a tour of it.
Chapel
Next to the Parterre is a Chapel, a small domed building that has great views of the surrounding woodlands.
Boats
From April – October you can take a boat ride along the River Thames, which is a really nice way to spend an afternoon.
Food options
Food options at Cliveden are:
Conservatory Café
Located near the house, this café sells food, drinks, ice cream, baked goods, and kid’s meals, and has indoor and outdoor seating.
Kiosk
There’s a kiosk at the main car park that sells drinks and snacks, and has a drinking tap where you can refill water bottles.
Doll’s House Café
This café located next to the Storybook Play Den isn’t open often, but when it is it sells drinks and snacks.
Picnic areas
You can bring a picnic to Cliveden and eat it at one of the many tables and chairs at the Water Garden, Doll’s House Café, or Clive’s Den.
