For ages I’ve been talking about decluttering Ryan’s toy room, and storing his toys in a better way then they currently are.

Ryan’s toy room is next to our living room, making it unavoidable to ignore when it’s at its messiest.

In order to stop being annoyed at the state of his toy room, I’ve finally taken action and decluttered it, as well as bought new storage options for his toys.

This is what half of Ryan’s toy room looked like, before it was decluttered and reorganised:

In this half of Ryan’s toy room is one of his favourite items, his spaceship tent, and a round table and chairs, which currently holds random toys.

To the right of the table are books and toys, which are stored in a way that makes the room look cluttered.

There’s also a black rubber bucket on the floor, which holds soft toys and building blocks.

The biggest annoyance that I had with this half of the toy room was all of the clutter. The tent takes up a lot of space, the table was being used as a dumping ground, the book area was always a mess, and the bucket stores toys that aren’t used.

To overcome most of these issues, I removed a lot of the clutter, and stored the books differently.

Here’s what this half of the room looks like now:

The spaceship tent is still in the same place, there are less items on the round table, but most notably the toys have been removed from the book section, and the books that were there have been placed in a newly purchased IKEA Flisat book display.

I also purchased two IKEA DaiDai plant pots to store future craft items, as I intend the table to be used as a craft station.

The black rubber bucket has been moved into Ryan’s room, and the toys that were in it have been moved to the kitchen area storage unit (as seen below).

Now onto the other half of the room, here’s a before shot:

This half of the room has a lot of wasted space and no storage. This meant that toys were left all over the floor, making the room very untidy.

This half of the room has Ryan’s IKEA Duktig play kitchen, and a trolley that hold blocks. It also has a train track, which never stays in the location shown.

Behind the door is wasted space, and on the floor lies Ryan’s wooden car garage. It’s not an ideal location, as Ryan doesn’t get on the floor to play with it.

To better utilise this half of the room, the room now looks like this:

The biggest difference made to this room is the grey storage unit behind the door. This storage unit was in Ryan’s room, squashed between his wall and his bed. It was so squashed, that the shelves couldn’t be used.

The wooden car garage that was on the floor is now on the top of the storage unit, along with some other toys.

As a result, Ryan now regularly goes to this area and plays with these toys, as they’re at his height.

Inside the storage boxes are balls, blocks, cars, planes, and various toys.

Since taking this photo I’ve purchased some black labels showing what toys go where.

I feel so much better about this room now. The biggest change has been adding the book display, and grey storage unit to it, which have both allowed toys to be better organised and stored.

Now I need to continue my decluttering and storage solution ideas for the rest of my home.
