It’s been how long?

Love from Lisa It's been how long? Image

It’s been one and a half years since I’ve blogged. One and a half years! I can’t believe it.

So what’s been happening over the past year and a half?

I had a baby! A little boy – Ryan. I found out I was pregnant a month before I stopped blogging. This was probably the main reason why I stopped as all my energy was focused on growing, and now raising a little bundle of joy / bundle of crazy man

My love of travel continued with some trips within Australia, Europe, and the USA. Ryan came along to all (he did 20 flights by the time he was 9 months old, insane!)

In March this year I moved from Melbourne Australia to Windsor UK. I’m still getting used to being away from friends and family, but it’s getting easier

Actually this move is the reason why this blog has been on my mind, and why I’ve decided to start blogging again.

Being away from friends and family leaves me with a lot of time on my hands, and being home with R has made me want to have a little something for myself.

So here’s to not having a year and a half break from this little space of mine ever again, and to creating content that you enjoy!

Liebster Award follow up

The Creative Canvass Liebster Award Image source

In December I was lucky enough to be nominated for the Liebster Award by the gorgeous Erica over at Musings by The Bay.

You can read my response to this nomination here.

At the same time I was also nominated by the talented Destinee over at The Girl in Sequins.

As I had already posted a response to my previous nomination, I thought I would take this opportunity to provide a little more information about myself by answering the questions that Destinee set for me in her nomination.

So here goes.

1. Are you a dreamist or a realist?
Sometimes I think I’m a little bit of both. Although as I’ve gotten older I think I’m now more of a realist, mixed with a bit of a pessimist.

2. What food can you not live without?
Hot chips, definitely!

3. Imagine you have to throw away your entire wardrobe, and can only keep 3 pieces. What would you keep?
I’d keep my light grey jeans, long grey cardigan, and PJ’s.

4. How do you overcome bad days?
I  watch a lot of TV and sit out on the hammock reading my favourite blogs.

5. Describe the perfect Saturday?
The perfect Saturday would be one where I just sat on the couch, ate fast food, and heaps of desserts and not put on any weight.

6. Are you one to have lots of friends, or a few close ones?
I have a few close ones who I try to spend as much time with as possible. I only catch up with people one on one and don’t often mix in groups.

7. What is a quote that you live by?
What will be will be.

8. What would you say is your weakest trait?
I overthink everything and can’t make a decision to save my life. When I do make a decision I go over and over it in my head. It’s really annoying.

9. Do/Did you typically dress up for school, or rock the “bum look”?
Lucky for me the schools in Australia have uniforms so I didn’t have to think about it.

10. What is your all time favorite song?
I love Kelly Clarkson so basically anything by her.

11. What is your ultimate life goal?
To be healthy and be able to do everything that my body allows me to do.

I hope this had shed some more light on me, thanks Erica and Destinee for the nominations.

Liebster Award supporting the blogging community

Liebster Award Image source

I started blogging because I felt like my life was missing something. I was always bored on weekends, and often thought that others led much more exciting lives. After a lot of sulking I decided to do something about it, and decided that starting a hobby would be a great way to improve my boredom.

After a lot of thinking, and of course list making, I decided that I wanted a hobby that would allow me to connect with people who had similar interests to myself, which led to exploring blogs, and then starting my own.

So, in June 2014 I finally put a plan into action and The Creative Canvass was born.

I didn’t even know about the depth of community surrounding bloggers, but this is something that I have come to notice over the past couple of months.

The blogging community is one of inspiration and kindness. It’s a place where bloggers of all levels of experience can get the motivation to start, to keep going, and to change the way they blog.

The blogging community has well and truly provided me with the ability to connect with people who have similar interests to myself. I am so grateful to not only write my own blog, but to participate in other blogger’s discussion feeds.

My gratitude extends to the gorgeous Erica of http://www.musingsbythebay.com who nominated me for a Liebster Award.

The Liebster Award is given to new blogs by other bloggers. It allows new blogs to be discovered, and allows the blogging community to grow even stronger.

The award works as follows, I will provide you with 11 random facts about myself, answer 11 questions that Erica posed for me, and then will nominate blogs that I feel are adding something special to the blog world. I will then provide my nominated blogs with their own 11 questions to answer.

So here goes.

11 random (and probably incriminating) facts about myself:

1. I talk to things like my car, insects that I’m trying to rescue by getting them out of the house, and even my Filofax planner. Yep, embarrassing but true. My sister does this as well, so it must be genetics.

2. I count stairs as I go up them, and I always brush each section of my mouth with 40 brush strokes.

3. I have gone overseas at least once a year every year since 1999. I love travel so much, it’s a big part of my life and a part I don’t want to ever stop.

4. I have three tattoos, my Leo star sign on my back, an airplane on my left wrist to symbolise my love of travel, and XO on my right arm, which was a design my sister chose so we could get matching tattoos.

5. When I was young I used to glue Fantale wrappers together so the facts on them joined up. I had a container full of them.

6. When I was a kid I pushed my brother down a hole in the backyard. It was the game where you blindfolded someone, spun them around, and then lead them somewhere. I led my brother down a hole. I still feel bad.

7. I’m addicted to ice cream with ice magic. I feel like I need to eat it every night.

8. I often like to spend time alone. I could spend days by myself if I had to. Most weekends you can find me in my tracksuit pants and jumper on the couch eating chocolate and watching Desperate Housewives.

9. I am seriously hopeless with movies. I’ve never seen Star Wars, Star Trek, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, or any other cult movie. Instead my genre is severely limited to chick flicks, with Love Actually being amongst my absolute favourites.

10. I’m a serial organiser, DVDs are in alphabetical order, clothes are hung by type and colour, and my new thing is once I’ve touched something it has to go away and not be left where it was.

11. I’m the only one in my family who’s left handed and am constantly told by others who I’ve had to write in front of “oh, you’re a lefty” or “what’s it like to be left handed?” Well, what’s it like to be right handed? I guess it’s the same.

11 questions that Erica posed for me

1. What side projects are you currently working on?
I don’t have a side project at the moment, unless you consider a garden makeover, or dreams about a bedroom makeover a side project. I’d love to have a side project though, so any suggestions would be most welcome.

2. How do you organise your blog schedule?
At the moment I’m using my Filofax planner to plan my blog posts and hold any post ideas that I have.

3. Why do you blog?
I initially started this blog as a hobby, but now it has come to be a place that I can document my life. I can now look back and say “yeah, I remember going there” or “that’s when I did that.” It’s only when I started reading other blogs, joining in on other blog discussions, and then writing my own blog that I’ve really felt the benefits of blogging. It has definitely kept me sane during times where I’ve felt bored or frustrated with life.

4. What’s the best advice you’ve heard?
I’m not sure if I heard this, but I sure as well do preach it it’s “always go with your gut.” I say this to everyone but am totally guilty of not following it. Your instincts about something are always, always right. Never doubt them.

5. Who is your favourite author and why?
At the moment I’m reading a Sophia Kinsella novel but am in desperate need of a new author to follow, so please suggest away.

6. What are you most looking forward to in 2015?
I am most looking forward to being more positive, making better decisions, and focusing on this blog. I am very guilty of going with the flow, making rash decisions, and not enjoying my life. I need this to change, and I want 2015 to be the year that it does.

7. When is the last time you laughed really hard?
Oh no, is it bad that I’m not sure? Lately I’ve laughed at Horrible Bosses 2, but the last time I remember laughing so hard I cried was around 2009 when some colleagues and I were talking about surnames – that was ages ago.

8. What’s the inspiration behind your blog posts?
The inspiration behind my blog posts is to make sure that I write about the things I love, things that I have done, and really sometimes just getting all personal and sharing things that haven’t worked so well so I can inspire anyone else going through it as well. Primarily, I want my blog to be a space that I am happy with, that I can share things about myself in, and that will help and inspire others as well.

9. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned since starting your blog?
For me it’s been to make time for yourself. Find something that you enjoy and make time to do it. Even if it’s once a week, make sure you are doing something that you love and make your happiness a priority.

10. What three adjectives reflect your personality?
Friendly
Nice
Relaxed

11. Make us laugh – what’s your best joke?
I’ve had to find one online for this and it’s corny:

What’s Forest Gump’s Password?
1Forest1

My nominations

The following blogs are those which I read and love for many different reasons.

I have nominated them as their content is closely related to mine. I love that they are not afraid to let the world in on where they’re at in life whether good or bad, and a couple of them I have established what I feel are great friendships through.

The birth of a blog

The Creative Canvass the birth of a blog

For a long, long time I’ve been trying to find something that would take my focus off finding the perfect job (do they even exist?) something that would make my life a little more interesting, and something that I love.

I’m a big list person, and every year make New Year’s resolutions. This year I was hoping to resolve to find this something. I researched resolutions that people make to inspire my choice, I researched hobbies that may be this something, I did quizzes, made lists, and spent way too long perfecting and streamlining my resolutions.

After the whole process I had 11 New Year’s resolutions – too many in my opinion. They ranged from the typical break bad habits, stop talking about food and body issues, stick up for myself, have more me time, and stop skipping the gym. I also listed hobbies that I wanted to start which were:

  • Baking
  • Blogging
  • Cooking foreign food
  • Exploring Melbourne
  • Exploring online forums

When I looked at my large list of resolutions I was overwhelmed, there was no way I would remember them throughout the year. I realised that I needed to change this process somehow. I needed to be more focussed, so I thought why don’t I set a theme for my year, one theme that would guide my actions for the year ahead?

So in true Lisa style I researched how to do this and discovered that many people were already on to this concept. However, instead of a phrase they were theming their year by using a single word, one word that would dictate how they acted for the whole year. One word that would form a few resolutions for the year instead of the 11 varied ones I had come up with, which I knew would be forgotten about by February.

So the process to find my one little word to define my year began. The word I came up with was Create.

What does this mean? How did I come up with this one little word, and how and why has it led to the birth of this blog? To find out more click here.
