Head and Heart is “a monthly capture of my feelings and doings in the raw,” it’s where I share a more personal side of myself on my blog.
So here’s my head and heart for October.
What I’ve been grateful for
Travelling is a massive part of my life. I’ve been overseas at least once a year since 1999. The first three weeks of this month were all about Japan. Japan has been on my travel bucket list for a very long time, and now I can finally cross it off.
What I’ve been thinking about
Having no job has put a big holt on spending, which ps I kind of needed. I feel like I don’t buy a lot, but the fact that I usually go through my weekly budget within the first couple of days of having it means that I must be spending it all on something (ahh food actually now that I really think about it…) Anyhow, one of my goals for 2015 is going to be finance related, which is something that I haven’t focussed on before. More specifically, I want to become more financially responsible. This means thinking before spending, and saving for something instead of buying it on credit. I’m excited to start focussing on this as my goals are normally centred on body image, and I don’t want to focus on this so much anymore.
What I’m excited for
I don’t even know what started this excitement, but sometime whilst in Hiroshima I got all obsessed about planning and how to improve what I currently do. Somehow I fell deep into the rabbit hole of looking at videos, blogs, Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook early morning, at night, and even on the plane. I was learning about all of the fantastic ways people use their planners. I am now seriously planning to plan. I ordered a Filofax planner whilst in Japan and am super excited to start making some serious plans.
What I’ve been doing
I hate my bedroom. It has dark furniture and a wooden bed, which I really, really want to sell and replace with something lighter. All of my bedroom furniture is my boyfriends and he won’t let it go without a fight. So in the effort of not having to relocate it to another room I’ve decided to lighten the room up so the furniture doesn’t look so dark. So far I’ve painted the room a lighter colour but I still need to change the bedding, add prints, and change the lamps. One step at a time though.
Part of planning better means that I need to have a space to plan and to work on making better post plans for this blog. Another hair brained idea I had whilst in Japan was to get a desk and put it in the spare room. So as I type I’m sitting at my new desk, now I just need to get some desk accessories.
Muffin finally came home after an extended stay at my parent’s house, so it was time for her to have a haircut. She gets really mattered hair and I’ve vowed never to get her sedated and shaved again, so looks like my second job will be a cat groomer.
What I’ve been reading
All Fall Down by Jennifer Weiner, I first discovered Jennifer after watching the movie adaption of one of her books In Her Shoes with Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette. So far I’m enjoying this book; as soon as I’m finished I will let you know my final thoughts.
What I’ve been spending money on
After viewing countless YouTube videos and Pinterest boards about planners, a whole world has opened up about planner decoration. Gone are the days where you simply write your plans out in pen. I was feeling super inspired so went on a stationery hunt in Japan and bought heaps!!
